On the fourth day of US trip, Telangana Industries, IT, Municipal Administration & Urban Development and NRI Affairs Minister Sri KT Rama Rao interacted with top leadership of several internationally reputed corporations.
Minister KTR visited the corporate office of 3M, with a USD 30 bn valuation and met John Pournoor, International Executive Director. During the meeting, 3M leadership informed the Minister about a revolutionary new technology developed by the company, which significantly reduces transmission losses in water supply systems. Minister evinced keen interest in adopting such a technology in Hyderabad Metro Water Works, to reduce the water loss due to leakages in pipelines.
Reducing leakages in Hyderabad Metro Water Works was one of the stated goals of Hon'ble Minister KT Rama Rao, when he took over as the Municipal Administration and Urban Development ministry. 3M leadership has also assured the Minister that they would explore the possibility of setting up the Indian version of the Urban Solutions Laboratory, Singapore, in Telangana state.
Leading Medical Equipment and Health Sciences company Medtronic reiterated its commitment to work closely with Government of Telangana on various healthcare initiatives. The leadership at Medtronic has appreciated the Minister's vision in establishing THub - a state-of-the-art incubator for start-ups and expressed its willingness to partner with T-Hub in the medical innovation sector.
Medtronic leadership also opined that Hyderabad has better infra than many comparable Indian cities and also has availability of huge local talent pool. They said Hyderabad is an ideal destination for medical innovation.
Minister KTR informed the Medtronic leadership team that Hyderabad is evolving as global healthcare destination. He said that the State Government is committed to increase investments in the public healthcare sector. Minister said that the government is taking all steps to revive confidence in public healthcare system.
Minister explained the highlights of Telangana's Industrial Policy and invited Medtronic to partner with state government on various healthcare initiatives. He also asked the company leadership to explore the possibility of investing in Telangana's upcoming Medical Devices Park.
Minister KTR met top officials at the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) in Minneapolis and discussed about the Economic Growth and Employment generation in Minnesota. Minister sought to know how Minnesota has been successful in keeping unemployment rates low by attracting new investments into the state.
Minister KTR was also keen to understand how Minnesota has been ranking high on Ease of Doing Business Ranking in the US. The DEED officials explained about the various business opportunities Minnesota state offers to investors.
The next meeting was at Boston Scientific Group, a leading manufacturer of Medical Devices. Minister was taken on the tour of the integrated facility of BSG, which houses R&D, manufacturing and testing. Minister informed the BSG leadership about the proposed Medical Devices Park in Telangana, and invited them to set up their facility there. The BSG leadership assured the Minister that they would definitely consider Telangana for their future expansion plans. BSG leadership and the Telangana delegation also discussed about possible collaboration in Data Analytics initiatives.
Later Minister met the leadership of Cargill Inc, a 120 Billion USD American conglomerate with business interests mainly in food processing sector. Minister KTR explained about the opportunities for companies like Cargill to invest in the Food Processing Parks being set up in Telangana. Minister informed them that ITC has already committed a huge investment in the Food Processing Park in Telangana.
