DEFENCE MINISTER INAUGURATED CONTONMENT GENERAL HOSPITAL IN SECUNDERABAD

Honourable Defence Minister Shri. Manohar Parrikar inaugurated the newly built Cantonment General Hospital at Bollarum here today. The hospital was proposed to be named after Sardar Vallabhai Patel and was previously known as Cantonment Infectious Diseases Hospital. Established in 1933 and maintained by Cantonment Board, Secunderabad used to serve medical needs of whole Secunderabad Cantonment Area and also patients from the surrounding municipalities and villages.

 

Addressing the gathering on the occasion the Defence Minister lauded the Cantonment Board President, CEO and other officials of the Cantonment for constructing a quality hospital which is completely equipped with environment friendly solar power.  Replying to the issues raised by other dignitaries on the dais especially related to closure of roads the Defence Minister says that he shares the concerns of both Military and Civilians. But at the same time he highlighted the issues related to security threat by giving examples of Pathankot and Gurdaspur terror attacks which are executed by very few persons. He also says that the problem in not with the general public as a whole but only with these kind of anti-social elements.

 

The Defence Minister expressed interest for assessing the ground situation by visiting the place and interacting with the representatives of civil society. He stressed on solving the problem in a give and take approach by holding discussions with the Army, MoD and the State Government. The Minister concluded by saying that Secunderabad problem will be treated as his personal problem and assured that it will be resolved in a limited time frame.

 

The old hospital building was demolished in 2006 and five dispensaries were being run in its place before construction of new building. The Cantonment Board has decided to take up the subject work in a phased manner and decided to construct a 30 bedded hospital in the first phase with an expenditure of Rs. 5.2 Crores in an area of 3.56 Acres. It will be subsequently upgraded to a 100 bedded hospital.

          Union Minister Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana State Ministers Shri KT Rama Rao, Shri Naini Narshimha Reddy, T Srinivas Yadav, MPs Shri K Kesava Rao, Ch Malla Reddy, AP Jithender Reddy, MLA G Sayanna, Director General Defence Estates Shri RP Singh, Major General S Pachory, GOC, Telangana and Andhra Sub Area, President Cantonment Board Brigadier Ajay Singh Negi and CEO Cantonment Board Smt Sujatha Gupta along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
