Tirumala, 16 June 2016: The three day annual Jyestha Abhishekam, also known as Abhideyaka Abhishekam is set to take place in Tirumala from June 17 to 19.
This is a unique festival where in the processional deity of Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy will be dressed up in Vajra Kavacha, Muthangi Kavacha and Swarna Kavacha during these days respectively.
It will be a rare spectacle for the devotees to witness the grandeur of Lord in Vajra Kavacha and on the second day in Muthyapu Kavacha as it is only during this occasion, the Lord will be adorned in this Diamond and Pearl coats respectively in a year.
PURPOSE: The essential purpose of the Jyestha Abhishekam is to protect the Utsava Murthy of Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy,from damage which might occur during Processions and Tirumanjanam through various Pujas The festival is held in the Kalyana mandapam in a solemn manner.
On the first day Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy along with Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi is brought to the Kalyana mandapam in the Sampingi Pradakshina Prakarama and Snapana Tirumanjanam with Panchamritams comprising Milk,Curd,Honey,Sandal Paste and Turmeric is performed after removing Golden Armour on Lord Malayappa Swamy.
Later Vajrakavacham (Diamond Kavacham) is adorned to the Lord and taken out for Procession along the temple streets.
On the second day after performing the Abhishekam and Pearl-studded Muthyapu or Muttangi Kavacham (Coat of Pearls) is adorned and taken out in procession in the temple streets.
On the third day also after performing the Snapana Tirumanjanam to Lord Malayappa Swamy, the Lord is decorated with Golden Kavacham and taken for procession. This Golden Coat will be removed only after next year when the same ritual is executed.
TTD has cancelled Nijapada Darshanam and Vasanthotsavam on First Day, Vasanthotsavam on Second day and Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Arjitha Brahmotsavam andVasanthotsavam on final day in connection with this festival.
