Tirumala, 15 August 2016: The pavitra malas were submitted to the deities at the Srivari Temple as per Agama rites as part of the ongoing annual Pavitrotsavam.
Earlier the priests performed the vedic rituals at the yaga shala from 7AM to 9AM. Later they recited the Purusha suktis and later the utsava deity Sri Malayappa swamy was taken along with his consorts (Bhudevi and Sridevi) to the Kalyana mandapam within the sampangi prakaram and Snapana Thirumanjanam was performed.
In the afternoon the pavitra malas were taken out in procession and adorned to Mulavirat, Utsava idols, Bhoga Srinivasamurthi, Ugra Srinivasamurthi, Yoga Narasimhamurthi and Vishwaksena and other idols inside the srivari temple.
Later the pavitra mala were submitted to idols of Bhu Varahaswami near the Pushkarini outside the temple, Koneti Anjaneyaswami and Bedi Anjaneya.
In the evening the utsava deity Sri Malayappa swamy was taken along with his consorts (Bhudevi and Sridevi) will be taken out in a procession on the four mada streets. The Pavitrotsavam will conclude after the Maha purnahuti ritual at Srivari temple.
In view of the Pavithrotsavam the routine arjita sevas in the Srivari temple like the Vishesha Puja, Asta dala pada padmarathana, Kalyanotsavam, Arjita Brahmotsavam, Unjal seva, Vasantotsavam, Sahastradipalankara sevas were uspended by the TTD. The routine Archana and Tomala sevas for the deity will be performed in Ekanta on those days.
Legends speak volumes on how the precious and holy Pavitras and tulasi used in the rituals of Lord Venkateswara are generated in holy grounds. The pavitras are prepared from either 20 yards of silk thread or 200 yards of cotton threads and are dyed ib yellow,green, turmeric and sindhur colors.
