Lord Malayappa Wears Vajra Kavacham after Snapanam on First Day of Jyestabhishekam



Tirumala, 7 June 2017: The processional deity of Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy draped in Vajra Kavacham blessed the devotees on first day of Abhidhyeyaka Abhishekam on Wednesday evening.

Earlier Lord Malayappa along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi were seated on a special platform in Sampangi Prakaram. This is done after the second Archana and bell at around 7 AM. The special Mahashanti Homam was performed by the in house temple priests carried out along with the Vedic chants for an hour. Later followed the colourful Satakalasa Tirumanjanam which lasted between 9 AM and 11 AM.

Jyesthabhishekam is usually done once in a year for three days during the Jyestha Masam. The festival is celebrated and reverred to pray for the longevity of Utsavarulu icons. Vasanthotsavam and Sahasra Kalasabhishekam were cancelled this time after the commencement of the ritual.

The idol of Lord Malayappa Swamy is adorned with diamond studded armour called Vajra Kavacham on first day while on second day the Lord will bless His pilgrims in Muthyapu Kavacham.
