SKVST CLEANSED WITH "PARIMALAM"

Tirupati, 27June 2017: As a prelude to Sakshatkara Vaibhavotsavams from June 28, the holy event of Koil alwar Tirumanjanam was performed in the Sri Kalyana Venkateswara swamy temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram on Tuesday with the sacred mixture “Parimalam” which is smeared in the entire precincts of temple and sanctum sanctorum.
The celestial event of this traditional temple cleansing activity began after completion of the Suprabhata seva, Tomala seva and Panchanga sravanam. The Tirumanjanam (holy cleaning of the temple with traditional herbals and disinfectants) commenced at 6am and lasted upto 10.30am and darshan commenced from 11am to pilgrims.
Meanwhile the Sakshatkara Vaibhavotsavams will be observed for three days from June 28-30 and Paruveta Utsavam on July 1. The temple officials have cancelled arjitha sevas during these days.
Significance: As per temple legend, the temple rituals commenced in this ancient temple by Sri Tallapaka China Tirumalacharya, the grand son of Saint Poet Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya in 17th Century after performing Jeernodharana. However after many foreign invasions the temple lost its charm. In 1940 Lord Kalyana Venkateswara has come in the dream of a devotee Sri Soundar Rajan and told him to bring past glory to the temple by reinstating all rituals. Later the rituals began to Lord with the help of the local villagers on July 11 in 1940, which happened to be the first day in Ashadha month then. This day is being observed as "Srivari Sakshatkara Vaibhavam" since then.
