Telangana Government will institute
awards for websites that adhere to Guidelines laid out by Government of India
and various other best practices prescribed by standards bodies, ITE&C
Department Principal Secretary Mr Jayesh Ranjan announced.

held on Making Government Websites Discoverable and Mobile-friendly by Google
India in association with IT, E&C Department, Government of Telangana at
The Plaza Hotel in Hyderabad today. Stating that Telangana is ranked number one
in Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Index and the same has generated interest
across the globe in industry and other sectors, the Principal Secretary said
that offering all the services and information online which were hitherto
available offline hence becomes utmost priority. “In modern times,
websites are the face of the Government.”
“Telangana has been a pioneer in implementing eGovernance in
big way. Since usage of mobiles will go up dramatically in the near future and
beyond we are now taking up m-Governance seriously and try to achieve
preeminent position in that segment as well,” Mr Ranjan said.
Director, Digital Media Mr Dileep Konatham has outlined the importance of making Government websites mobile and search engine-friendly stating that more and more users are using mobiles to access information and services on the Government websites. Stressing on the importance of security, privacy, availability, content quality of the websites, Mr Dileep stated that ITE&C Department has taken up GIGW Compliance Project which aims to make all the Government and its constituents’ websites to become user-friendly, usable and user-centric. The Workshop is another step towards achieving the compliance, he averred.

Around 30 Project Managers, Software Developers from
NIC-Hyderabad, Centre for Good Governance, TS Online and other private agencies
involved in developing Government websites have attended the Workshop. The
session covered topics like - How Google Search Works, Multi-lingual websites,
Best Practices for making mobile-friendly websites, Security etc.
Government of Telangana and technology major Google have
signed an MoU in March, 2017 that aims at supporting the digitisation efforts
of the State. Under one of the eight items of the MoU, Google is providing
assistance in making government websites mobile-friendly, among others. To this
end, Google has conducted the Workshop for developers on mobile websites and
search engine optimisation (SEO).-Press note
