Vanamagan

Vanamagan, which got released on June 23rd and Ivan Thandiran, which was released on June 30th were appreciated and liked by the audience and film critics alike and were running sucessfully in theatres. Then it was announced that central goverment's GST will be a added to the already existing entertainment tax for the film industry. To protest against this the Tamil nadu theatre owners association went on an indefinite strike from July 3rd shutting all the theatres in Tamilnadu . The different organising bodies of Tamil cinema held talks with the state goverment to waive the entertainment tax. It was announced yesterday that the strike has been called off and all the theatres Will be opened from July 7th. The team of VANAMAGAN and IVAN THANDIRAN jointly met the press after the theatre strike was called off.

'Jeyam' Ravi, director Vijay, Producer Azhagappan, Gautham Karthik,  R J Balaji, director Kannan and producer Dhananjeyan took part in this press meet.Producer A.L.Azhagappan said, " I have never seen such a massive strike in cinema industry before. It was announced without any prior intimation. I was shocked because of the state goverment's taxation. We can't blame the theatre owners as this taxation was sudden and unfair " Someone like me can move on to another project easily but it's can't be the same for director Kannan, who has slogged so much to make this movie happen and release . This movie should have been a successive hit after Rangoon. By god's grace we are getting our movie released again from July 7th. Few unnecessary things have to be eradicated from cinema industry for its health and growth. A lay man thinks that a cinema celebrity earns in crores and is living a happy life. But the truth is not that. I am happy that the theatre strike is over and we are hitting the screens from July 7th" said R J Balaji.

Producer Dhananjeyan said ," Vijay's dream project, Vanamagan was running sucessfully in theatres. It should continue. A lot of media people have come forward to support our movie to publicize and promote in this turbulant times "Director Vijay said," Vanamagan got 30 screens more in its second week, made distributors happy and was on its route to a commercial success when this theatre strike hit us all. It was very hurting when i heard many people watched Vanamagan in dvd's . I had faced similar situation for THALAIVAA also. I have even thought of moving out of Tamil cinema and get into advertisements and Telugu film industry. Thousands of families are dependent on Tamil film industry. We need all your support "Director Kannan said, " My whatsapp audio was not just my plight. It represented all the producers and directors who are going through the same situation. I slogged two years to finish IVAN THANDHIRAN 's script. Another producer was supposed to produce this movie. He moved away from the project at the last moment so that's when i had to step in and became the producer. I thanks eveyone who stand by me in this testing time "Actor Gautham Karthik said," I felt hurt when i saw thousands of families suffer due to this strike. Actors may seem confident outside but we only know the insecurities we go through in our lives. In such times audience's positive response in the only boost to us. In a lot of places fans themselves curb the illegal DVD sales in their own way.  Nothing can replace the actual cinematic theatre experience. I don't force people to watch me if they don like me but please do watch and appreciate other's work "Actor Jeyam Ravi said ," Vanamagan , which was supposed to release in the month of May was postponed to June because of producer council strike that time. We released Vanamagan after so many hurdles. Not many understand the difficulties the cinema industry people go through. Cinema is the biggest entertainment in Tamilnadu. A lot of necessary issues are told and conveyed through movies. We should not let cinema die".
