Golden Umbrella Ferte observed

Tirumala, 29 September 2017: As part of the ongoing Brahmotsavam, the Golden Umbrella festival celebrated at Tirumala on Friday.

As part of the age old custom, the staff of the Kalyana Katta (barbers) ceremonially install a brand new Golden Umbrella ahead of the prestigious and auspicious Rathotsavam event at Tirumala that is going to be observed on Saturdaymorning.

The

descendants of the Pantulugari family have been presenting the Golden Umbrella to Lord Venkateswara from the past five centuries. In the initial days it was made of wood. But since 1952 onwards, wooden Umbrella is replaced with Golden Umbrella.

Panthulugari Ramanathan, descendant of the Pantulu family presented the umbrellas at a ceremony on Fridayevening which was also attended by TTD EO AK Singhal, JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju and CVSO A Ravikrishna.
