Inauguration of International Children Film Festival of India at Shilpakala Vedika, Madhapur

Hyderabad: The 20th International Children's Film Festival got off to a colourful start in the historic city of Hyderabad this evening with the event inaugurated at the spacious Shilpa Kala Vedika located in the high profile corridor of the Hightech City. 

Addressing the selective gathering of delegates drawn from across the globe including several noted film personalities, the Minister for Cinematography of the Telangana, the host State, Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav, said that films, particularly made by and for the children send a strong message to the kids, who are the future citizens of the nation. Promising all the possible cooperation from the State Government for the successful conduct of the week-long event, the Minister felt that the messages that such films give shape the future of the children in order to transform them into responsible citizens. 

Maintaining that the 20th International Children's Film Festival is second such event being conducted after the formation of the State, he said that the Telangana Government under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, has made all the necessary arrangements for the festival. He said that the historic city of Hyderabad has been hosting several national and international events and has turned a noted venue for such festivals.

The Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, Mr Navin Mittal, who is also Managing Director of the Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC), in his welcome address said that the International Child Film Festival is gaining more popularity year after year. For the 20th festival in the series a record number of 1402 films have been received as entries of which a little over 300 have been selected by the jury for screening. 'It does not mean that the other films are in no way less important but the jury has selected the 300 films taking several issues into consideration," he noted.

Observing that the main theme of this version of the film festival is New India, Mr Navin Mittal said that the Golden Elephant, the symbol of the film fest, is getting more excitement by the day. He is of the opinion that children films send a strong message to the public which will bring in a positive change in the little minds. 

Chief Executive Officer of the Children Film Society of India Sravan Kumar said that the 21st version of the festival too will be hosted by Hyderabad. Observing that the quality of films being received as entries for the festival is very high. he said he is happy that child delegates from almost all corners of the country, including Ananthanag, Jammu and Kashmir and other remote areas have gathered here for the mega event. 'I got the feeling of festivity the moment I landed in Hyderabad for the festival," he noted.  

Chairman of the Children Film Society of India Mukesh Khanna, who is the Sakthimaan fame, said that only kids can make the right and suitable films for the children. He is of the opinion that Hyderabad city has a thriving market for the children's films he felt sorry that films like Bahubali are being screened for the children instead of cinemas made by them and for them. 

The dais is tastefully decorated for the inaugural function where children paled dance programmes of almost all Indian cultures. A short film made with child artistes against the historic fort of Golconda is screened for the audience which is received well by the audience. While Zaira, the fame of the block buster movie Dangal is the cynosure of all the eyes, noted film actress Poonam Kour was is lustily greeted by them as she came onto the dais. Zaira was felicitated by Mr Navin Mittal and Sravan Kumar, Poonam presented her a saree made with typical Telugu culture.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the Minister for Cinematography, Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav.
