Chakra Teertham Gets a Face Lift









Tirumala, 2 December 2017: One of the most famous water torrent, Chakratheertham located in the lush green forests and rocky hills of Seshachalam ranges in Tirumala donned a new look to welcome more number of pilgrims to enjoy the spiritual scenic beauty. 
THE ANTHROPOMORPHIC FORM OF LORD HERE IS SELF MANIFESTED
Chakrateertham assumed the name following the self manifestation of Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar, the anthropomorphic form of Lord Maha Vishnu. Located about  3.l Km from Narayanagiri Hills, this gorge welcomes over 6000 pilgrims during ordinary days and over 30000 pilgrims during peak days.
KARTHIKA MASA FESTIVAL
The mukkoti festival for this water falls is being observed in the auspicious month of Karthika on Suddha Dwadasi day. Special puja will be performed on this day to Sudarshana Chakrattalwar, the unique marble Shiva Linga, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Sri Anjaneya statue located in this rocky hill over water falls.
MYTHOLOGICAL IMPORTANCE:
According to Skanda Purana, a Sage Padmanabha did penance for 12 years to appease Sri Maha Vishnu. Moved by the dedication of the Sage, Lord appeared before him and blessed Him with the boon that the sage should offer Him prayers till the end of aeon. One day when a demon tried to attack the sage, the later prayed Lord. The Lord sent his holy disc and killed the demon. Over the request of the sage, Lord instructed His Discuss to remain in the place and protect the devotees from evil forces. Since then the place is named as Chakrateertham.
BARRICADING AND STONE FLOORING ENHANCES VISITORS
With an aim to make this place more pilgrim friendly, TTD has renovated the entire path way. Under the supervision of TTD SE II Sri Ramachandra Reddy, EE Sri Tota Venkateswarulu and his team of engineers taken up the improvement works by providing cut stone flooring from Silathoranam to Chakratheertham at a cost of Rs. 45 00 lakhs last year. 
Now with the support of railing the pilgrims could trek the small rocky hill to reach the temples of Sudarshana Chakrattalwar and Lord Shiva. Under the instructions of TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal, the engineering wing is soon to commence the beautification of temples by erecting gopuram without disturbing the original structures.
