Golden Umbrella Event Held

Tirumala, September 19:  Golden umbrella festival was celebrated at Tirumala ahead of the magnificent Rathotsavam event on September 20,  the penultimate day of ongoing Brahmotsavams.

As per temple legend, Srinivasa Mahadeva Raya, a descendant of Sri Krishnadevaraya, the family of Pantulu holds the privilege since centuries. 

What started off in the initial days with a tribal umbrella transformed into a Golden one from 1952 onwards. The descendants of the Pantulu  family have been presenting such Golden Umbrellas to other temples like Sri Govindaraja temple, Sri Kodandrama temple and the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple also.

TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal and Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju were given Purnakumbha Swagatham by Pantulu Ramanathan, a descendant of the family.

Kalyana Katta DyEO Smt Nagaratna took part in this fete.
