Students spread awareness to “Give Way to Ambulance” through street play on the World Theatre Day

Hyderabad, March, 2019: Students of Oakridge International School, Hyderabad, hit the four major traffic junctions in Cyberabad area to sensitize people about the importance of giving way to an ambulance, on the occasion of World Theatre Day. A total of 18 students from Grade 10 & 11 performed street plays near the areas of Khajaguda, Gachibowli, CyberTowers, and IIIT junctions, today, highlighting issues revolving death rates due to increasing traffic.

Scripted by the students of Oakridge and guided by theatre faculties of the school, the play depicted the facts about how India has the highest incidences of death due to delay in ambulance services. They also focused on how ambulances get delayed due to citizens neglecting traffic rules. With an aim to educate the motorists and other citizens that saving time is saving a life, these kids acted as the citizens and staged how people ignore the siren of ambulances, create traffic for various events like weddings, rallies, etc. The Deputy Commissioner of Police and their team also took part in this initiative and encouraged the kids to spread the message of ‘Give Way to Ambulance’.

Speaking on the occasion Arjun Rao, Oakridge Principal said, “We have been focusing on Habits for Life. One of the most important areas of our focus was on impacting the community through an instilling of concern for the emergency services in the city. Our students proposed the idea of taking our learning into the city and directly influencing the community. We hope that we can, through the efforts of our students, encourage our citizens on the roads to ‘Give Way to Ambulance’.”
