Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam Performed in Sri Tirumala Temple in Connection with Telugu Ugadi








Tirumala, 2 Apr. 19: The traditional temple cleansing fete, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed with religious fervour in Sri Tirumala Temple on Tuesday by TTD.

This fete is usually performed four times in a year, on the preceding Tuesday before the scheduled festival, including annual Brahmotsavams, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, Telugu Ugadi and Anivara Asthanam. The entire temple is cleansed with aromatic ingredients made from turmeric, vermilion, kicchiligadda(a tuber root), sandal and camphor which were made into a fine paste and applied on to the walls, roofs, ceiling of the temple, sub-shrines. All the Parivara Deities, puja utensils were also brought outside from the Sanctum Sanctorum and cleansed. This traditional ingredient is called "Parimalam" and it will act as a disinfectant. 

While the smearing of the paste process was underway, the Mula Virat of Sri Venkateswara Swamy was closed with a white veil. After the completion of the cleaning process, the cloth is removed. Later all the puja utensils and deities were positioned in their respective places and Harati and Nivedana followed after special pujas were performed to the presiding deity.

TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal, JEO Tirumala Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Temple DyEO Sri Harindranath, VSO Sri Manohar and other temple staffs were also present.
