Tirupati, 19 Dec. 19: Tirupati Joint Executive Officer, Sri P Basant Kumar has said today that besides studies, sports activities enhanced physical and mental capabilities of students and thereby provided them a bright future.
He was inaugurating the 24th inter-polytechnic sports and games meet jointly hosted by TTD and the Govt of AP at the Sri Padmavati Mahila Polytechnic institutions on Thursday morning.
As a chief guest he said sports should be made a mandatory curriculum of studies in polytechnics Win or lose was part of the sports which enhanced the stamina of the students he said adding that nowadays students ignored sports but focused only on studies and as a result, any set back pushed them into depression.
He said TTD institutions had good playgrounds and sports infrastructure and hoped that students exploited the opportunities and excelled in national and international events.
Technical education department SVU regional director Sri V Padma Rao urged students to pay equal stress for both studies and sports as the later earned them better recognition and quota for higher studies and also jobs. In 2020 January net state-level competitions would be held, he added
TTD DFO Sri D Phani Kumar Naidu said sports participation enhanced physical and personality development besides self-confidence among students.
TTD DEO Dr Ramana Prasad TTD will soon introduce a sports policy to develop sports infrastructure and also train budding sports talents in a big way.
Dr G Asunta, principal of Sri Padmavati Mahila Polytechnic welcomed the gathering.
Earlier flags of national sports and polytechnic institutions were hoisted and sports lamp was lighted besides bright and colourful balloons were released signalling the commencement of competitions.
Coordinator of Polytechnic institutions Dr L Krishna sai and sports girls from 29 polytechnics participated.
