Hon’ble Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajn said on Saturday
that just living long is not enough, it is living long quality life that
matters the most. Regular practice of Yoga is a critical factor in living
a quality life, she added.
The Governor was launching the Yoga Saptah-2020 through
virtual conference from the Raj Bhavan, here. She said that Yoga is a doctor
and added that she was certifying it as being a doctor by profession.
“Yoga immensely contributes for the physical, mental and
emotional well-being of those who practice. During my medical practice days, I
could see many patients dramatically improving after they started practicing
yoga regularly,” Dr. Soundararajan added.
Especially the patients of depression, arthritis, thyroid
and other ailments, the Governor said showed great improvement after they
started practicing yoga.
“We must all be proud that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s
initiative at the United Nations Organization was supported by a massive number
of 175 countries to declare the June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. It
is a 5000-year-old tradition of our country,” she stated.
Narrating her experience as the Gynaecologist, Dr. Tamilisai
Soundarajan said that pregnant women who practiced yoga asanas had normal
deliveries; while those led a sedentary lifestyle had to go for ceasarian
surgeries. She exhorted the parent to encourage their children to practice yoga
to improve their concentration and perform better in academics.
Quoting Tamil saint Thiruvalluvar, she stated our body is
our temple and yoga keeps this temple healthy in all aspects.
The Yoga Saptah-2020 being organized by the Virat Bharat
organization is aimed at achieving 5 lakh Surya Namaskars between June 15 and
21 by involving at least 10,000 people.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy,
RSS Prant Pracharak Devender ji, noted lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Shastri
were among the other guests at the e-launching of Yoga Saptah.
