Sundarakanda Parayanam Off to a Grand Start






Tirumala, 11 Jun. 20: After successfully completing Yoga Vasishtyam-Dhanwantari Maha Mantra Parayanam for 62 days, TTD has commenced "Sundarakanda Pathanam" from Thursday onwards on the Nada Neerajanam platform in Tirumala.

Sudarakanda is the fifth section of the epic of Srimad Ramayana written by Sage Valmiki. He divided his work into Kandams or Sections. 'Bala Kandam', 'Ayodhya Kandam', 'Aranya Kandam', 'Kishkinda Kandam', 'Sundara Kandam', 'Yuddha Kandam' and 'Uttara Kandam'. The fifth one is Sundara Kandam comprising of 68 Sargas (chapters) with 2821 slokas (in TTD published Srimad Ramayanam). By reciting the slokas in Sundarakanda, one shall emerge victorious; overcome the dreadful diseases, disease-causing viruses etc.

The programme commenced with the introduction by stalwarts including Sri KSS Avadhanadi, Sri Janamaddi Ramakrishna Sastry, and Dr A Vibheeshana Sharma about the significance of Sundarakanda Parayanam. Later TTD Asthana Vidwan Dr G Balakrishna Prasad rendered Sankeertan, "Ramudu Lokabhiramudu Udayinchagaanu". This is followed by Sundarakanda Pathanam. On the first day, six slokas were recited. This was followed by another Annamacharya Sankeertana, "Periginadu Choodaro Pedda Hanumanthudu".

Speaking on this occasion, TTD Trust Board Chairman Sri Y V Subba Reddy, said, to ward off the ill effects of Corona COVID 19 Virus from the world, TTD has taken up the recitation of Yoga Vasishtyam in the last two months. With the blessings of Lord Venkateswara, we have resumed darshanam for the pilgrims from today onwards. So we have taken up "Sundarakanda Pathanam", he added.

Vice-Chancellors of Vedic Varsity Sri Sannidhanam Sudarshana Sharma, of Rastriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetham Sri Muralidhara Sharma, TTD Additional EO Sri A V Dharma Reddy, Annamacharya Project Director Sri S Dakshinamurthy, HDPP Secretary Sri Rajagopalan and other expert scholars were also present.
