Economic empowerment of women is crucial to tide over pandemic crisis: Governor

Hyderabad, Sept 23: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday exhorted women to strive to get economically empowered.

Emphasising on the economic empowerment of women, she said that creation of wealth by women through entrepreneurship is crucial to tide over the COVID-19 induced economic instability.

The Governor was launching the 2-month long Atma Nirbhar self-employment training programme for Raj Bhavan parivar women at Raj Bhavan Community Hall, here.

The training will be given by the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India, formerly known as the ALEAP.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that when women earn money they judiciously use all that money for the family’s welfare.

“In these testing times of pandemic, women need to learn new skills and start their own entrepreneurial ventures to create wealth and get economically strong and empowered,” she added.

The Governor stated that Atma Nirbhar Bharat programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the inspiration to launch this training programme for women to prepare them as the future-entrepreneurs by ensuring loans and marketing facilities for their products.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan cautioned the participants to strictly adhere to the COVI-19 prevention norms, while undergoing the training and added that ‘wearing of mask is the only available immunization as of now to prevent Covid-19 spread.’

The Governor urged the colonies and other residential welfare associations to take initiative in launching self-employment training programmes for women and youth to explore their entrepreneurial skills and help them get economically empowered and supplement the incomes.

“We need more entrepreneurs rather than the job-seekers so as to contribute for the family’s income and country’s economy. I call upon the women to come out and explore the world to get economically empowered,” she added.

Secretary to Governor K. Surendra Mohan, IAS, explained as part of the initiative, initially 31 women from Raj Bhavan parivar will be trained in Maggam works and Hand Embroidery and later stages, training will be offered in Food Products, Paper Crafts using waste paper, fashion designing and other courses.

Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India secretary Sridevi and directors Pallavi Joshi and Madhavi explained about their training programmes for women to promote entrepreneurship among them.

Later, the Governor went round the stalls set up by the entrepreneurs and interacted with the entrepreneurs and appreciated their efforts in innovations like bio-degradable PPE kits and other eco-friendly handicrafts made by the women entrepreneurs.
