“Mahakavi Subramania Bharati is not only a legend in the Tamil Nadu; he is a great icon of the nation,” said Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.
She said that Subramania Bharati’s poetry
has got an eternal inspirational power and is still inspiring millions of
people across the country and the intensity of his poetry and writings
transcend the boundaries of the nations.
The Governor was virtually launching the
Bharathi Study Centre, instituted by Tamil Nadu Young Thinkers Forum (TNYTF) to
study the life and works of the legendary freedom fighter and Mahakavi Subramania
Bharati, on Saturday from the Raj Bhavan, here.
The Bharathi Study Centre was launched as
part of the Centenary year observations of the legendary Subramania Bharati,
whose death centenary will be observed on September 12 next year.
Appreciating the initiative of TN Young
Thinkers Forum in launching the Bharathi Study Centre, Dr. Tamilisai
Soundararajan called for greater research into exemplary life and works of
Subramania Bharati so as to perpetuate his memory and protect and promote his
works.
“He was a freedom fighter, social reformer
who relentlessly fought for women’s rights and empowerment, journalist,
teacher, writer and a legendary poet. He was a truly multifaceted personality
and polyglot who has got mastery over 14 languages,” the Governor added.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that she
was inspired by Mahakavi Bharatiyar’s writings and poems since her childhood
and added that they contribute for self-confidence. The Governor recited some
of her favourite verses penned by Bharatiyar in the webinar.
She called upon the people to take the
Subramania Bharati’s legacy forward so as to create better awareness about the
Mahakavi Bharati among the future generations and to remember his services.
