Aall Set for Srivari Teppotsavam

Tirumala, 23 Mar. 21: TTD is organising the annual Teppotsavam of Srivari temple from March 24 evening in total compliance of COVID-19 guidelines.

The annual float festival held at the Swamy Pushkarini begins on Ekadasi to Pournam day in Phalguna in which Sri Malayappa and his consorts take a joy ride in the evening.

The TTD engineering department has built a float with electrical decorations and also put electrical lighting around Swami Pushkarini and this year innovatively added water shower sprays around the float.

The TTD has earmarked 500 kgs of flowers to deck up the float every day and the utsava idols will be adorned with scented jasmine garlands marking the season of jasmines in Srivari service, henceforth.

Similarly, the vigilance and security have geared up arrangements with swimmers as well.

Teppotsavam also called Tiruvalla Vodai Tirunal in Tamil and Teppa Tirunal in Telugu is symbolic of Sri Venkateshwara annual boating celebrations.

Legends say that the float festival has been in vogue since time immemorial and in 1468 a Nirala Mandapams was built in the Swami Pushkarini by King Saluva Narasimha Raya.

In the 15th-century saint-poet, Tallapaka Annamacharya had described the Teppotsavam in his sankeetans.

The festival of the procession of utsava idols of Srinivasa and his consorts in cool waters of Pushkarini in the evenings ahead of summer months is a feast to the eyes of the devout.

On the first day the utsava idols of Sri Sitalakshmana Anjaneya sameta Sri Ramachandramurty adorn the float. On the second day Utsava idols of Rukmini sameta Sri Krishna go round three times.

On the last three days, Sri Malayappa Swamy and his consorts Sri Devi and Sri Bhudevi go three, four and five rounds respectively to regale and bless devotees.
