Ankurarpanam Held for Annual Pavitrotsavams in Tirumala Temple








The Ankurarpana was held for the annual Pavitrotsavams which are scheduled from August 18 to 20 in Tirumala temple on Tuesday evening.  


In the morning, Acharya Ritwik Varanam was held in front of Moola Virat in the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple and duties were allotted to the Acharyas who will be carrying out the rituals on all these days. 


In the evening, Viswaksena - the Commander in Chief of Sri Venkateswara Swamy was taken to Vasantha Mandapam in a procession and Mritsangrahanam and Asthanam were performed. Later the deity was returned to the temple and Ankurarpana was held in the Yagasala in Tirumala temple as per Vaikhana Agama in accordance with Covid guidelines. 


According to available inscriptional evidence, the Pavitrotsavam was first performed in 15 and 16 centuries and revived in 1962 by TTD and are also known  as "Sarva Dosha Upasamana" or "Dosha Nivarana" Utsavams, The unique feature of this festival is that garlands made out of silk or cotton threads are  prepared in five colours viz. White, Black, Green, Yellow, Red and will be decorated to the utsava idols on this celestial occasion.  


Additional EO Sri AV Dharma Reddy, Deputy EO Sri Ramesh Babu, Peishkar Sri Hari were also present.
