National Handloom Day celebrated at Raj Bhavan













National Handloom Day is celebrated in festive atmosphere at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Saturday.

On the occasion, Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan felicitated the weavers and stated that they deserved greater support.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor highlighted the weavers’ role during the freedom struggle and their contribution to the national movement.

“Weavers really deserve more. They should be rewarded suitably. They should also be given greater respect for all the service that they are doing to the nation,” she added.

The Governor also remembered her participation in the first ever National Handloom Day launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tamil Nadu in 2015.

Paying rich tributes to the art of weaving, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that weavers exhibit extraordinary passion towards their profession for centuries and come out with exquisite designs with painstaking efforts and patience. They bring colour to the nation.

She called upon the people to buy local handloom products in order to support and be with the weavers and to express our respect to their profession and passion.

The Governor lauded the efforts of the Telangana Postal circle in bringing out special covers highlighting the Geographical Indications related to the handloom products of Narayanpet, Siddipet, and Warangal.

It was for the first time that Raj Bhavan organized the National Handloom Day where more than 50 weavers from across the State joined the Governors in the celebrations.

Secretary to Governor K. Surendra Mohan, Handlooms and Textiles Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer, and other senior officials were present.
