Sri Arun Haldar, Hon’ble Vice Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC)  held a meeting with Chief Secretary to Government Sri Somesh Kumar, IAS, DGP, Sri M.Mahender Reddy and other Senior Officials at BRKR Bhavan on Tuesday. He appreciated the steps taken by the Telangana Government for the over all development of Scheduled Castes in the State. He also suggested officials to respond immediately on the incidents and extend immediately relief measures to the aggrieved families. He asked the officials  to work for the welfare of SCs from a humanitarian standpoint.

The Chief Secretary explained the measures taken by the State Government for the holistic development of Scheduled Castes. As part of that, the Government is implementing the SC, ST Development Act. He said Telangana is the only state in the country to bring such an act. Based on the population ratio 15.45% of the budget is earmarked exclusively for the development of Scheduled Castes and any unspent balances are carried forward with the budget for the next year additionally. Atrocities against Scheduled Castes are being monitored through Nodal Committees at District and State Level.

The Chief Secretary said that as part of the flagship program, the Government is running  residential education institutions up to graduation level to impart quality education  to Scheduled Caste students. The enhanced quality of education provided here has resulted in numerous students securing admissions with the most premier institutions of higher education in the country and abroad.

The Officials explained the commitment of the Government in dealing with the Atrocities against Scheduled Castes officials and as a point in case explained the case of Mariamma which took place in the State. The deceased family were provided relief and employment to the son of the deceased. Apart from this the police officials involved in the case were dismissed from the services.
