Tirumala, 12 Sep. 21: The 1048th Avatara Mahotsavam of Tirumala Nambi was observed with religious fervour in Tirumala on Sunday.
As part of it, rich tributes were paid to one of the ardent Sri Vaishnava saint devotees of Sri Venkateswara Swamy who pioneered Theertha Kainkaryam in Tirumala.
Acharya Chakravarti Ranganathan of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetham hailed Sri Tirumala Nambi as a frontline disciple Srivaru.
In his keynote address at Sri Tirumala Nambi temple located in South Mada Street, Acharya Ranganathan said Sri Tirumala Nambi had come to Tirumala in 973AD and on directions of his grand father Yamunacharya carried water for daily Srivari abhisekam from Papavinasa Theertha even in his old age.
Legends say that Sri Venkateswara took pity on him and ordered to carry water from Akashaganga at Anjanadri Hillock specially created for Tirumala Nambi.
He said as per legends Tirumala Nambi who was maternal uncle of Sri Ramanujacharya is hailed for his Theertha, Mantra Pushpa and Veda Parayana Kainkaryams.
