Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam Performed at Venkatapalem Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vari Temple





The traditional temple cleaning ritual, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed in Sri Venkateswara temple at Venkatapalem on Wednesday.

 

This religious fete was observed between 2pm and 4pm.

 

In temple jargon, Koil means temple, Alwar means devotee and Tirumanjanam means cleaning with aromatic ingredients. So this unique fete involves cleansing of the temple by His devotee.

 

A mixture called 'Parimalam' is prepared out of vermilion, turmeric, sandal paste, Kichiligadda(a tuber) amd other aromatic ingredients.

 

This paste was applied to the sanctum sanctorum, roofs, walls, pillars etc. covering entire temple. This mixture also acts as a disinfectant.

 

Earlier, Punyahavachanam, Ratnadhivasam, Vimana Gopura Kalasa Sthapana, Ratnanyasam, Dhatunyasam, Vigraha Sthapana, Astabandhanam werw also observed between 8am and 11:30am.

 

In the evening Mahashanti Abhishekam, Pranayanam, Kumbharadhana, Sayanadhivasam, Sarva Devatarchana and Visesha Homams will be performed in the Yagashala.

 

JEO Sri Veerabrahmam, CVSO Sri Narasimha Kishore, DyEOs Sri Gunabhushan Reddy, Sri Govindarajan, All Projects Program Officer Sri Vijayasaradhi, one of the chief priests Sri Venugopala Deekshitulu, Agama Advisor Sri Vishnu Bhattacharyulu, VGO Sri Manohar, AEO Sri Dorasami Naik and others were present in Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam.
