Traditional Accounting Ritual on 17th July

The traditional accounting ritual, Anivara Asthanam will be observed on July 17 in Tirumala Temple. 

Anivara Asthanam marks the closure of old accounts and the beginning of new accounts of the new financial year of Sri Venkateswara Temple. Origin Anivara is derived from the Tamil month of 'Aani' which generally corresponds to July month. As this ritual is performed in Aani month, it has been referred to as the Aanivara event. In Sanskrit, Asthana means the royal court. Thus, ‘Anivara Asthanam' means the royal court (of Lord Venkateswara) held during Ani month. However, TTD presents its annual budget every year in the month of March. As a tribute to the old temple tradition, the ritual of Anivara Asthanam is observed in the month of July every year.SignificanceAs part of this ritual, Asthanam is performed in Garudalwar Sannidhi located at Bangaru Vakili inside Tirumala temple. The Utsava deities along with Sri Vishwaksena will be seated opposite the Garudalwar in the presence of Mula Virat and the royal court proceedings are performed. Tirumala Sri Pedda Jeeyar Swamy accompanied by his junior pontiff, carries the Vastrams overhead and presents four out of six to Mula Virat while one to Sri Malayappa Swamy and another to Sri Vishwaksena. Afterwards, the chief priest of the Tirumala temple hangs Lacchana(Key bunch) to the right hand of both the Tirumala pontiffs and TTD EO and later keeps it at the holy feet of Mula Virat seeking the divine blessings.

PUSHPAPALLAKI

 

In the evening, Sri Malayappa flanked by Sridevi and Bhudevi takes out a celestial ride on the finely decked Pushpa Pallaki along the four mada streets to bless the devotees.

TTD has cancelled arjitha sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, arjita Brahmotsavam and Sahasra Deepalankara Seva owing to Anivara Asthanam.
