Worldwide Demand for SVITSA Scculptures



There is worldwide demand for the sculptures carved by the students of TTD-run Sri Venkateswara Institute of Traditional Architecture and Sculpture, said TTD DEO Sri Bhaskar Reddy and SVITSA Principal Sri Venkat Reddy.


During the press conference held at the Media Centre in Tirumala on Tuesday, the DEO said that established in 1960 the sculpture institute of TTD has so far produced 800 students in the traditional temple art who have settled as Sthapathis, temple architects across the country as well in the world. To sustain the traditional arts for the future generations, a stipend amount Rs.1lakh is also given to each student after the completion of their courses.


Principal Sri Venkat Reddy said, there are six courses in the college including the temple construction, cement-stone-metal-wood, and Kalamkari Paintings. The faculty are state and central government awardees imparting the best to the students in their respective courses. 


He said besides the newly constructed temples at Odisha, Vizag, Chennai, Jammu etc. the sculptures carved by the SVITSA students are also sent to the Sri Venkateswara temples at US, UK, Newzealand, Australia, South Africa also.
