No VIP Break on 1st October

The traditional temple cleansing Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam will be performed in Tirumala temple on October 1 in view of the annual Brahmotsavams which is scheduled from October 4 to 12. Astadala Pada Padmaradhana Seva remains cancelled in view of this ceremony on Tuesday.

In Tamil, Koil means 'Holy Shrine', Alwar means “Devotee”, Tiru means "Celestial", Manjanam means  “sacred bath". On the whole, Koil Tirumanjanam is the purification ceremony of the sanctum sanctorum and temple premises by devotees.

During the ceremony, all the deities and other articles are removed from the sanctum sanctorum and cleansed with an aromatic mixture called "Parimalam" comprising camphor, sandal paste, saffron, turmeric, Kicchili Gadda (a root vegetable) etc. which is smeared all around that acts as a disinfectant.

This entire activity takes places from 6am to 10am. Later the cover on the main deity is removed and the deities, deepam and other articles are replaced inside. Special pujas and Naivedyams are then offered to the presiding deity.

This religious ceremony is performed strictly as per the agama sastra and is conducted four times a year viz. before (usually on Tuesdays) Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Vaikunta Eakadasi and Annual Brahmotsavams.

VIP BREAK CANCELLED
