Traditional Golden Umbrella Fete Held

As a part of the ongoing annual Brahmotsavam at Tirumala, the Golden Umbrella festival was held in the evening before the big chariot festival on Thursday.

From the time of Vijayanagara King Srinivasa Varma, Pantulu Gari family descendants have been coming as hereditary trustees.

After the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam administration started, it was Sri Pantulu Sanjeevi who constructed the first Kalyana Katta and handed it over to TTD in 1946.

Earlier they used to offer wooden umbrella to the chariot.

However, since 1952, Sri Pantulugari family has been offering golden umbrellas on the day before Rathotsavam.

Since 1984, Sri Pantulugari Ramanathan has been offering umbrella in the last 40 years during annual Brahmotsavams.

This golden umbrella will be decorated for the wooden Ratham on October 11.

A grand procession takes place in the streets of Tirumala.

TTD additional EO Sri Ch Venkaiah Chowdhary, Deputy EOs Sri Lokanatham, Sri Venkataiah and others were present.
