Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Should Be Given The Bharat Ratna









Sri Venugopal, former Director of All India Radio, said that Sri Potti Sriramulu was the base for the formation of linguistic states.


The 124th birth anniversary program of Amara Jeevi Sri Potti Sri Ramulu was observed on Sunday at Annamacharya Kalamandiram in Tirupati.

Sri Venugopal, who was the chief guest of the program, said that Sri Potti Sriramulu, was born and brought up in Chennai, worked in railways in Mumbai.  After that he went to Sabarmati Ashram after being attracted by Gandhiji's ideologies.  

With his inspiration, he participated in Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movements and went to jail several times.  He said that he was given the honour for allowing the Harijans to enter the temple under the inspiration of Gandhiji.  

He started fasting at the residence of Sri Bulusu Sambamurthy on Rayapeta Road in Chennai, continued his fasting with great perseverance and finally sacrificed his life.   

For the immortal sacrifices he made for the formation of the state of Andhra Pradesh and various social activities he should be awarded Bharat Ratna, he asserted.

Later many TTD employees gave speeches.  Earlier, the guests paid tribute to the portrait of Sri Potti Sriramulu.

Welfare Department Deputy EO Sri Anandaraju, other staff partcipated.
