The traditional temple cleansing fete, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, was observed at Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple at Vontimitta in Kadapa district,
on Tuesday in view of the annual Brahmotsavams from April 05-15.
Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is an Agamic temple cleansing ritual which is usually observed before any mega religious event.
'Koil' means the temple, 'Alwar' means the devotee and 'Tirumanjanam' means divine cleansing activity. On totto, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is a Agama ritual which means cleaning of the temple premises by the devotees.
On Tuesday, an aromatic mixture called "Parimalam" was smeared all along walls, roofs of the main temple, sub- temples, puja utensils.
This unique mixture is an amalgamation of Srichurnam, Namakopu, Vermilion, Turmeric, A tuber vegetable called Kichchili Gadda, which provides a cooling and soothing effect
Temple officials performed this event with utmost devotion from 8am till 11:30am. Later devotees are allowed for darshan.
