Kumaradhara Theertha Mukkoti on 24th Feb
The torrent festival of Kumaradharatheertha Mukkoti will be observed in Tirumala on February 24.
According to the Varaha and Markandeya Puranas, an old Brahmin used to wander alone in the Seshachala hills.
Sri Venkateswara Swamy appeared and asked, "At this age, ears cannot hear, eyes cannot see... What are you doing in the forest?" The old man replied that he was thinking of paying off his debt by performing Yajnayagas. Later, as per Swami's suggestion, the old man took a bath in this tirtha and turned into a 16-year-old youth. Hence this Thirtha got the name 'Kumara Dhara' due to the transition from old age to youth.
As per the Padma and Vamana Puranas, Devaloka Senapati, Sri Kumaraswamy tried to get rid of the curse after killing the demon Tarakasura. As instructed by Lord Siva, he did penance at Vrishadri in the Seshachala. Later he took a bath in this holy Thirtha and got rid of the curse. The name 'Kumaradhara' was established for this Thirtha due to the fact that Kumaraswamy bathed in it.
Among the torrent festivals that are being observed by TTD, besides Tumburu, Ramakrishna Theerthams etc. Kumaradharatheertham also occupies a significant place as devotees take part in this torrent fest with enthusiasm.
